12-year-old surrenders to police after stabbing of Grade 8 student in front of school

A 12-year-old student voluntarily surrendered to the police  Monday afternoon, June 29,  less than an hour after a fellow student was stabbed outside a public high school in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

The victim, a 14-year-old Grade 8 student, sustained minor stab wounds to his left arm and the left side of his body during the incident, a Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) report said.

Investigators said that a commotion erupted in the area directly fronting Sum-ag National High School at around 4:18 p.m. In the midst of the disturbance, bystanders discovered that the 14-year-old victim had been stabbed.

Personnel from the Barangay Sum-ag Rescue Unit (BASRU) immediately responded to the scene, administering crucial first aid before rushing the injured student to a nearby hospital.

Following a swift follow-up investigation by responding officers, the suspect—a 12-year-old Grade 7 student classified as a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL)—voluntarily surrendered at Police Station 9 at around 5 p.m., the PRO NIR report said.*
