A 101.2-megawatt floating solar power project covering about 105 hectares is being planned in Brgy. Himoga-an Baybay, potentially adding a major renewable energy investment to Sagay City.
Representatives of LakeSunEnergy Inc. met with Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” M. Cueva at the City Mayor’s Office to update the City Government on the proposed 101.200 MWAC Solar-on-Water PV Solar Project, August 26.
LakeSunEnergy is a subsidiary of Mandaluyong-based SunAsia Energy, a press release from Sagay City said Monday, August 31.
The company is currently working to secure financing and complete project requirements by December, with construction targeted to begin in early 2027, subject to the approval of permits, clearances, and other regulatory requirements.
The project proposes to install solar facilities over approximately 105.0229 hectares, maximizing the productive use of fishpond areas while maintaining waterways and contributing to cleaner electricity generation.
As part of project preparations, LakeSunEnergy is coordinating with the City Planning and Development Office, Sagay City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and City Agriculture Office to gather data on fishponds, land-use classifications, zoning, environmental guidelines, and other planning requirements.
The coordination is intended to ensure that the proposed development complies with local land-use and environmental regulations while balancing renewable energy development with the existing use of the area.
Mayor Cueva welcomed the investment and assured the company of the City Government’s assistance in coordinating with concerned offices, particularly on permits, zoning, environmental requirements, and other matters within the LGU’s jurisdiction.
The proposed project could contribute to Sagay’s economic development while supporting the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable sources of energy.
Its development also forms part of the city’s continuing effort to attract investments that generate economic opportunities while ensuring that large-scale projects comply with environmental and development policies.*
