Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri led the inauguration of the second phase of the Kabankalan Water District rehabilitation and waterline improvement in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, July 1.

It is geared towards improving Kabankalan Water District’s services and to bring down the cost of water, he said.

Zubiri allocated P50 million from his Senate funds for the first phase of the project, and another P100 million for the second phase

Phase two involves additional pipe laying and expansion of water systems, said Zubiri whose father former Bukidnon governor Jose Maria Zubiri is from Talubangi, Kabankalan.

The water district’s pipes were installed in the 1940s yet, the senator said

To fully complete the rehabilitation work he will see to the further allocation of another P100 to P150 million, he added.

“Maybe next year we can complete it,” Zubiri said.

Big investors in the past had pulled out from investing in Kabankalan because of the water problem, he said.

The Bacolod City Engineer’s Office said the project is 74 percent complete. Its target date of completion is October.*
