WV fireworks injuries 4.88% higher than 2022

Fireworks-related injuries in Western Visayas, which includes Negros Occidental, hit 43 with nine new cases reported, the Department of Health 6 said on Friday, Dec. 29.

There were 16 cases reported in Negros Occidental, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, provincial health officer, also reported on Friday.

Cadiz City and Kabankalan City had three cases each, Victorias City and La Castellana – two each, and Valladolid, Silay City, Pontevedra, Hinigaran, San Carlos City and EB Magalona – one each, she said.

Meanwhile, the 43 cases for the entire Western Visayas from Dec. 21 to 29 are 4.88 percent higher than the 41 cases from the same time period last year, the DOH said.

Of the nine new cases reported, eight patients suffered from blast/burn injuries and one had an eye injury.

The DOH identified the firecrackers that caused the injuries as Boga, Triangulo, Camara and 5 Star.*
