W. Visayas police seize P45M in illegal drugs, nab 344 in January

The intensified anti-drug operations launched by various police units of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO6) in January resulted in the seizure of P45 million worth of illegal drugs and the arrest of 344 suspects.

The 265 police operations conducted last month yielded approximately 6,369 grams of shabu valued at P43.2 million, and 15,024 grams of marijuana worth P1.8 million, PRO6 reported on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) contributed the biggest haul with P17.76 million worth of illegal drugs, followed by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) with P11.73 million, and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office with P7.2 million.

Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office recorded the highest arrest, accounting for 133 suspects, followed by the ICPO with 81, and BCPO with 73.

The suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“These figures reflect our dedication to our campaign to eliminate the threat of illegal drugs in every community,” PRO6 director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky said in a statement.

He urged all units to continue fostering strong relationships with members of the community, and enhancing collaboration and coordination with other government agencies.

“With their support, we can certainly protect our communities from the peril of illegal drugs and put behind bars those who opted to engage in the illegal activity.” *PNA
