After a hiatus during the pandemic, VMC Foundation, in collaboration with Victorias Milling Company Inc. (VMC) is re-launching its annual VMC Interschool Art Competition which is now on its eight year, with the theme “My Role in Society.”
The competition is open to all elementary and secondary students in the Province of Negros Occidental. Since its inception, the VMC Interschool Art Competition has become a platform for budding talents to be discovered and provides them a venue to be recognized, a press release from VMC said.
Part of the nurturing of talents is the annual Summer Art Workshop where winners get an opportunity to be mentored by experts in the field of visual arts and inculcate in them the love and preservation of Negrense heritage.
The competition which started in 2013 has produced students that have gone on to compete internationally and a career in visual arts. It expanded to cover the entire Negros Island but was put on hold when COVID-19 struck.
With the resumption of face-to-face classes, VMC is reviving the competition in Negros Occidental and will select 30 finalists each from the elementary and secondary levels to participate in the on-the-spot art competition on November 25 in Bacolod City.
Students are encouraged to send a digital copy of their sample artwork by November 6. Pre-screening of the entries is scheduled on November 8 and announcement of finalists will be on November 10 so they have ample time to prepare for the finals.
This year’s theme aims to drive the value of growth and development among our youth and what they think their role should be in their community, our society and in nation-building in general.
VMC has valued the role of the youth in growing nations and economies and hopes to send that message to all, particularly among the young, to strive for self-improvement and to become better versions of themselves.
Winners in the elementary category will get P20,000 for the grand prize, P15,000 for second place and P10,000 for the third place. Two consolation prizes of P5,000 each will also be awarded. An LED television will also be awarded to the school where the grand winner hails.
