A drowning victim in Negros Occidental*

The Provincial Veterinary Office advised farmers to place their farm animals in elevated areas to avoid drowning following the death of P400,000 worth of livestock in five local government units in Negros Occidental during heavy rains brought on by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine last week.

Dr. Placeda Lemana, Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinarian, said on Tuesday, Oct. 29, that chickens, carabao calves and horses died from hypothermia and drowning.

About 1,300 broiler chickens, mostly chicks, were reported dead in Brgy. San Isidro, Pontevedra.

The LGUs that reported livestock deaths were Bago and La Carlota cities, and Pontevedra, Pulupandan, and Valladolid towns, Lemana said.*
