Vendors’ stalls around plaza no longer allowed – Benitez

Vendors like these are no longer allowed around the Bacolod Public Plaza.*

Vendors will no longer be allowed to put up stalls around the Bacolod Public Plaza this year, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said on Monday, January 8.

He said that was one of the matters agreed on in an executive-legislative agenda meeting he convened that was attended by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and all of the city’s councilors

They discussed priority ordinances of the city during the meeting, Benitez said.

They are banning the vendors from putting up stalls to restore the prestige of the plaza, which is set to be improved, he said.

The city government will find ways to assist the Diocese of Bacolod that will lose revenues by being unable to rent the side of the plaza that it owns, he said.

The Church uses its earnings for the needs of its retired priests, he said.

Also being eyed is the setting up of possible paid parking areas in some areas of Bacolod City, he said.*
