Vehicular crash in Kabankalan leads cops to seize gun, ammo

A vehicular crash in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, led to the arrest of a motorcycle rider and the confiscation of an improvised firearm and ammunition on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Police said the incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. in Purok Dalawidaw, Brgy Binicuil.

A parked Montero Sport SUV was sideswiped by a SKYGO 125 motorcycle traveling northbound toward Kabankalan City proper, the police said.

The SUV was driven by a 33-year-old businesswoman, while a 34-year-old laborer drove the motorcycle,

When the responding policemen approached the scene to conduct a standard traffic investigation the motorcycle driver allegedly resisted and attempted to evade authorities.

With the assistance of barangay tanods, the suspect was eventually arrested, the police said.

During the intervention, police said they saw in plain view an improvised pistol locally known as a pugalite and 27 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition inside an open belt bag of the suspect.

The motorcycle and the seized firearm and ammunition were brought to the Kabankalan City Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

Police said charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, will be filed against the suspect.*
