Van plunges into creek in DSB, eight injured

Eight passengers were injured after a van plunged into a creek along the national highway in Brgy. Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 20.

Police said the vehicle was a Toyota van driven by Rudy Fabiosa, 60, of Brgy. Banquerohan, Cadiz City, who was traveling with 17 passengers, including eight minors.

Police investigation showed that they were on their way home from an excursion at a resort in Brgy. Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, where they had celebrated Fabiosa’s 60th birthday.

Police said the van was travelling along a blind curve in Purok Talos when its brakes allegedly malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to swerve to the opposite lane and overshoot into a creek.

Eight passengers sustained injuries and were brought to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center.

Police said the incident was reported at around 5:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after the crash occurred.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.*
