Valladolid declares state of calamity

 Valladolid town in Negros Occidental was placed under a state calamity on Friday, Sept. 20, Vice Mayor Roel Yogore said.

The Sangguniang Bayan in a special session approved the declaration because of the widespread damage caused by the recent rains and floods in all 16 barangays of Valladolid, he said.

Valladolid is the fourth local government unit in Negros Occidental to be placed under a state of calamity this week.

The three others are La Carlota City, Hinigaran and San Enrique.

The declaration of a state of calamity enables   local governments to access emergency funds to implement relief operations to aid affected residents.

The recent rains and floods affected 9,255 families with 27,765 members in Valladolid, Irene Bel Ploteña Provincial Disaster Management Program Division head, said.

There were also 4 houses destroyed and 184 damaged, she said.

Damage to rice crops in the town was P18.8 million aquaculture – P42,000  and livestock – P196,694, she added.*
