Two students drown, 2 killed

Two 10-year-old students drowned and two adults were killed in separate incidents in Negros Occidental on Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19.

The 10-year-old male and female students drowned in a river at Sitio Nandong, Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the police said.

Claville Brillas, officer-in-charge of Balisong Elementary School, reported to the police that the victims had attended a school family day gathering at the Orong covered court with some parents and students.

After the activity ended, some of the parents and students went home on a rented cargo truck. The two victims and three companions asked to get off near the river, and she only found out later that they had gone swimming and drowned, Brillas said.

Meanwhile, Raymund Perocho, 46, was found with a gunshot wound inside a hut at Sitio Ubay, Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan City, 10:20 p.m. Saturday.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan, the police said.

The police also reported that two persons were stabbed in Brgy. Amayco, Murcia, Negros Occidental, at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, March 19.

Novie Star Dequito, 22, and Niel Salazar, 19, were having a drinking session at a purok fiesta when a heated argument and a commotion took place.

Dequito was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, while Salazar was admitted for treatment.

The unidentified suspects fled after the incident, the police said.*
