
Two minors drowned in Don Salvador Benedicto and EB Magalona in Negros Occidental during the weekend.
A 5-year-old girl downed in the Bago River in Don Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental, on Black Saturday, April 4.
The victim was a resident of Purok Estewetes, Barangay Bagong Silang in Don Salvador Benedicto.
The father of the victim told the police that they were swimming in the Bago River at Purok Mahogany, Barangay Bunga, together with family and friends when he noticed that his daughter was missing.
They immediately conducted a search and recovered the victim submerged underwater.
The victim was rushed to the Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Health Unit for revival but medical personnel noted that the victim’s vital signs were unresponsive.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel transported the victim to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City where she was declared dead by the attending physician.
Meanwhile, a 7-year-old boy drowned at the Malogo River in Hacienda Banilad, Brgy. Nanca, EB Magalona, at 11:05 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5, the police said. The victim was a resident of Bacayan, Barangay 19, Victorias City.
The police said initial findings showed that the victim, together with his family, went to the river for a “recreational activity” and was left unattended.
Shortly after, his uncle, noticed the victim floating in the river. The victim was immediately rescued and brought to the Silay hospital where he was declared dead.*
