A government assistance payout and a job fair will highlight this year’s celebration of Independence Day in Dumaguete City, officials said on Wednesday.
Ma. Socorro Mira, Public Employment Services Office (PESO) chief, said the local government of Dumaguete and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Negros Oriental are co-hosting this year’s 128th Independence Day activities.
“The job fair at the Robinsons shopping mall will involve 12 employers with a total of 1,400 vacancies,” Mira said.
Of the total, two are overseas, and 10 are local employers, with 600 overseas vacancies and 800 local positions available, she added.
Government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry, PhilHealth, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and many others will also be present in the one-stop shop to cater to the needs of the people.
Meanwhile, Raizza Phoebe Rubia, DOLE-Negros Oriental Field Office information officer, said 174 individuals from nearby Valencia town will receive PHP11,000 each during a Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) payout on the same day at the same venue.
Rubia said these individuals have rendered work under the TUPAD program for 20 days with a daily wage of PHP500.
TUPAD beneficiaries from this capital had already received their cash assistance during the Labor Day celebration last May 1, she added.*PNA
