Tia Nuca community pantry up

Commissioner Rowena Guanzon of the Commission on Elections and her siblings have put up a community pantry in front of their home at Magsaysay Street in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Their “Komyuniti Pantri ni Tia Nuca” is named after their mother, the late Negros Occidental Board Member Elvira Guanzon, the commissioner said.

“My mother had a lifetime tradition of giving food and clothes to the poor. Our gate was always open to those who were in need,” Guanzon said.

Their community pantry provides food packs and clothes to senior citizens and persons with disability.

Guanzon thanked relatives, friends, and Cadiz residents and business people who have been donating to the community pantry for their generosity.

The community pantry served more than 300 people on Monday and 250 on Tuesday, she said.

They will take a break on Wednesday and continue their community pantry on Thursday and Friday, Guanzon said.

They are strictly enforcing crowd control and social distancing, and provide chairs, face masks and alcohol for those waiting in line, she said.

“We issued stubs so we can control the crowd and count how many received food,” Guanzon said.

Guanzon said her sister, Dr. Viki Guanzon, reminded her to put up the community pantry that she has been running with the help of her siblings Judge Frances Guanzon and Board Member Sixto Guanzon Jr., and volunteers.*
