Teachers will continue to receive their much deserved remunerations, including the emergency cost of living allowance (ECOLA), Bacolod mayoral aspirant Alfredo “Albee” Benitez assured educators Wednesday, December 29.
Benitez issued the assurance following allegations that their ECOLA will be abolished in the event that he wins the mayorship in 2022.
“Indi ma dula, basi ma dugangan pa (it will not be abolished, it may even increase”, he said.
The ECOLA is sourced from the General Fund.
More than anyone, Benitez – who hails from a long line of educators – said he understands the plight of public school teachers hence this privilege will never ever be stopped or abolished.
Benitez acknowledged the teachers’ sacrifices to fulfill their duties since the online classes began, and said they deserve additional resources such as gadgets, bondpaper, load and materials to spark innovations for them to teach their students efficiently.*
