Task force strictly monitoring farmers entering danger zone

Task Force Kanlaon is strictly monitoring the number of farmers entering the Kanlaon Volcano 6 kilometer danger zone to harvest their crops and tend to their farm animals.

Checkpoints have been set up to submit daily reports on the number of farmers who enter and leave the danger zone, Regional Director Donato Sermeno of the Office of the Civil Negros Island Region said.

So far all are accounted for, security is tight in the danger zone, he said

Farmers are allowed to enter the danger zone from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. only, he said, to ensure their safety.

The Incident Management Team of Task Force Kanlaon conducted a site visit and ocular inspection of the vegetable farms in Purok 2, Brgy Cabagnaan in La Castellana town within the danger zone, he said.*
