Talisay mayor, 16 others positive for Covid, city hall on skeleton force

Mayor Neil Lizares, a councilor and 15 other Talisay City government employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Councilor Ma. Isabel Lizares tested positive for COVID-19 and other members of the city council will be swabbed for RT-PCR tests, the mayor said.

The mayor said it is possible that he was infected with the virus at a department meeting.

Lizares has ordered that the Talisay City Hall be manned by a skeleton workforce on Wednesday and Thursday, September 22 and 23, and locked down on Friday for disinfection to ensure the safety of the public and government employees.

Lizares said he currently remains asymptomatic.

“I would like to assure everyone that I am taking every step possible to ensure that I stay in good health and will recover successfully from this virus,” he said.

“Let us continue to pray for the fast recovery of the all COVID-19 active cases in the city of Talisay. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated and to continue to follow all minimum safety standards and health protocols for our protection,” he added.

LOVE NEGROS MEETING

Lizares is the second mayor who attended the Love Negros meeting at Natures’s Village Resort in Talisay City to have tested positive for COVID-19. On Sunday Mayor Pedro Zayco also tested positive for the virus.

Zayco’s condition is stable with no signs of complications, a statement from Kabankalan City said.

“He is currently undergoing isolation required under protocol directives,” it added.*
