
The suspects in the shooting of an Army soldier in Brgy. Palampas, San Carlos City, on Monday will face multiple charges, the police said on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The suspects identified as Joebert Gimarangan Salazar, alias “Jojo,” 31, and Alfie Sayo Raganas, alias “Dondon,” 42, of Calatrava, will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, illegal possession of explosives and frustrated murder.
Further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in the drug trade, Col. Rainerio De Chavez, Negros Occidental police provincial director, said.
He said that with the guns, explosives, and suspected shabu recovered from the suspects, they are possibly linked to the illegal drugs trade.
Sgt. Alfort Tito of Brgy. Bato, Sagay City, and a member of the 79 Infantry Brigade was injured after he was shot multiple times by the suspects while on board his motorcycle on Monday.
The San Carlos Police Station conducted a pursuit and dragnet operation which resulted to the arrest of the suspects, with the help of the CCTV cameras in the city.
Recovered from them were a .45 caliber pistol, KG 9mm pistol, ammunition, a grenade and 162.67 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1,106,156.00 and 2.47 grams of suspected marijuana worth P370.50, the police said.
