The Negros Electric and Power Corp. discovered that the 27-year-old power transformer at the Sum-Ag Substation in Bacolod City is no longer in good condition and is likely to explode.
If it explodes it would be similar to what happened at the Alijis Substation that caused a prolonged and widespread power outage, Negros Power said in a statement on Monday, Sept. 9.
To avoid this, Negros Power said it will conduct proactive and preventive maintenance immediately that will cause an emergency power interruption on, Tuesday, September 10.
The Sum-ag Substation is scheduled to be shutdown from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. but there will only be a brief power outage for about 5 to 15 minutes at the Sum-ag Feeder 1 for switching its load to Alijis Feeders 1 and 3.
The areas affected will be:
