Local rapper Don Godofredo of Barangay Sum-ag emerged as champion of Masskarap Hari ng Bara 2026, earning a ₱25,000 cash prize and an opportunity to perform alongside Filipino rap artists Skusta Clee and Flow G at the Pinas Astig Nationwide Rap Battle on October 17 along Lacson Street in Bacolod  City.

Don Godofredo, whose real name is Jepoy Hojilla Borja, 25, claimed the title following the competition held  at the Bacolod City Government Center on Tuesday, October 13.. He will represent Bacolod City alongside the winner of Hari ng Diga, a press release from Gugma Foundation said.

The victory marks a significant opportunity for the local rapper, who is returning to the spotlight after taking a step back from performing to focus on personal growth and artistic development, it said.

“I took a step back from the spotlight to focus on myself and grow, not just as an artist but also as a person. Now, I’m ready to return to the rap battle scene with a renewed mindset, more experience, and a stronger hunger to prove myself. Representing Bacolod City on a bigger stage and performing alongside Skusta Clee and Flow G is an opportunity I truly look forward to. I’m ready to give it my all and show everyone what I’ve been working on,” Don Godofredo said.

Five contestants — TRMS, Narrej, Rex Galeigh, Don Godofredo, and Kyle Sue — competed in the event, showcasing their lyrical prowess, quick wit, creativity, and stage presence. The competition highlighted the growing hip-hop culture and vibrant rap scene in Bacolod City.

Beyond the festival’s signature masks, street dances, and grand spectacles, MassKara continues to provide a platform for artists from diverse creative communities to showcase their talents and connect with audiences, the press release said.

Through Masskarap, the festival recognizes rap as a powerful form of artistic expression, providing homegrown performers with opportunities to develop their craft, reach wider audiences, and bring Bacolod’s distinct voice to a bigger stage, it added.*
