Javellana leads awarding of cash incentives to 523 Bagonhon elderly

The Bago  City government, led by Mayor Mayette Javellana, honored 523 senior citizens through the Bagonhon Longevity Award at the city’s coliseum and cultural center Wednesday, October 14.

The awarding formed part of the 2026 National Elderly Filipino Week celebration with the theme, “Nakatatandang Pilipino: May Halaga at Karapatan, May Boses at Ambag sa Bayan”, a press release from Bago  City said.

Javellana  said the city’s success is measured by how it honors its elders.

She reminded the awardees that their value does not diminish with age and that their years carry a legacy of hard work, sacrifice, and love that continues to guide the younger generation of Bagonhons.

“At the end of the day, we are a successful city when we give honor and respect to our elders,”  Javellana  said, adding “A meaningful life is not measured simply by how long we live, but by how much love we give and how many lives we have touched.”

The mayor recalled that, at the start of her administration, the number of social pension beneficiaries in the city has increased from about 500 to more than 2,600.

She said the city government continues to provide canes and wheelchairs to qualified senior citizens and will deliver these assistance items directly to their homes.

Octogenarians, or senior citizens aged 80 to 89, received P5,000 each. Nonagenarians, aged 90 to 99, received P10,000 each.

Constancia Parsan, 100, of Purok Malipayon, Barangay Sampinit, received P25,000 as this batch’s only centenarian.

The Bagonhon Longevity Award is an initiative of the City Government of Bago through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), along with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).

It recognizes senior citizens aged 80 and above who have contributed to the city’s growth and inspired younger Bagonhons through their long and meaningful lives.

Councilors Joy Matti, Femmy Alvarez-Martir, and Leonilo Del Carmen also attended the ceremony.

They were joined by CSWDO Head Leah Pilipina Canayon, OSCA Head Leonito Garbanzos, Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of the Philippines Bago City Chapter President Fe Mondidon, 24 Barangay Association of Senior Citizens Affairs presidents, Executive Assistant for Barangay Affairs Jobert Tagobader, and the Bago City Primary Care Facility medical team. *
