School authorities have identified the student who allegedly placed two packets of a substance resembling shabu inside another student’s bag at a high school in Brgy. Banago, Bacolod City.
The substance tested negative for shabu following examination by the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region Regional Forensic Unit, Bacolod City Police Office Director Col. Eugene Rebadomia confirmed Wednesday, July 22.
Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Jose Marty Go said the school identified the student allegedly responsible for the prank while authorities were awaiting the confirmatory test result.
Go, citing information from Bacolod City Schools Division Superintendent Dennis Develos, said the prank may have stemmed from a dispute between the two students.
The student who allegedly placed the packets of fake shabu in the bag was also reportedly the person who informed the security guard that the other minor was carrying a weapon inside the school.
A search of the student’s bag did not yield a weapon, but security personnel recovered two packets containing what was initially believed to be around 30 grams of shabu worth P204,000.
Rebadomia said the items were seized at around noon on Monday, July 20, but the incident was reported to Police Station 3 at around 4 p.m.
The student from whose bag the packets were recovered was turned over to the Bacolod City Social Welfare and Development Office and will not face criminal charges.
Rebadomia said the minor is now considered a victim and may undergo psychological intervention or debriefing.
Go said the school temporarily placed the student under an alternative learning arrangement.
Psychosocial interventions are also being scheduled for both students as the school and authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the prank.
The identities of the students were withheld because they are minors.*
