A complaint has been filed against a former Sagay City councilor linked to the alleged cutting of trees inside the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) in Barangay Celestino Villacin, Cadiz City, in Negros Occidental.
A structure built in the area with some of the alleged illegally cut trees was also demolished and the materials were hauled down, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Joan Nathaniel Gerangaya said on Monday, November 21.
The structure had no valid building permit, Environment Compliance Certificate and Protected Area Management Board endorsement, he said.
The demolition was conducted by a composite team of the Local Government Unit, the police and the CENRO Cadiz, he said.
The details of the case are with the CENRO Cadiz, he added.
The former councilor could not be reached for comment as of this writing.*
