STI West Negros University and the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a Memorandum of Agreement to forge a partnership between the academe and the business sector to produce graduates who meet the needs of the times.

The MOA was signed by STIWNU Executive Vice President, Dr. Ryan Mark Molina, and MBCCI Chief Executive Officer Frank Carbon at the university on Wednesday, June 28.

“The agreement we signed with the MBCCI is a step towards the realization of our dream for the university’s College of Business Management and Accountancy to be a Center of Excellence,” Molina said.

“We just can’t stand alone, we need the expertise of MBCCI to guide the way we educate our students in business. This will help us ensure that the competence we teach are aligned with what the industry needs to realize our mission of producing quality graduates who will not only join the workforce soon, but will become leaders of the organization they will belong to,” Molina said.

MBCCI has been waiting for this opportunity to work hand in hand with the academe in order for industry leaders and practitioners to provide inputs and insights to educators to make instruction and training for students relevant and applicable to the needs of the industry, Carbon said.

The business sector for as long time has been handicapped on the manpower side because the academe failed to produce graduates who meet the needs of businesses, he said.

This partnership with WNUSTI will ensure that the business sector and the academe will be in one boat rowing together trying to reach the same destination for sustainable socio economic growth, which can be achieved with capable graduates entering the workforce, Carbon said.

Dr. Mima Villanueva, STIWNU VP for Academic Affairs , said the signing of the MOA signifies the start of a partnership in providing a venue for the academe and the industry to share resources in conducting co-curricular activities such as trainings, lectures, consultations, fora, career orientation, advocacy campaigns, on-the-job trainings, and related endeavors that will bridge the gap between what academic institutions produce in terms of graduates and the industry needs for its manpower in the tertiary, graduate and post-graduate programs.

It will also update faculty and students with first-hand information on the business sector’s current trends and practices, Villanueva said.

The signing of the MOA took place through the initiative of STIWNU College of Business Management and Accountancy – Doctor in Public Administration and Master in Public Administration Programs.*
