Barangay 5 in San Carlos City is eyeing the declaration of a state of calamity following a fire that displaced 328 residents to enable the release of its Quick Response Fund to aid the victims, Joe Recalex Alingasa Jr., San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, said.
The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council was set to convene on Monday for the declaration, he said.
The San Carlos City government is also assisting the fire victims, he added.
An unattended lighted cigarette is suspected to have triggered a fire that destroyed 85 houses and damaged two in a densely populated area at the corner of Endrina and V. Gustilo streets in Brgy. 5, in San Carlos City on Friday night, September 6, Alingasa said.
Two persons were slightly injured in the fire, and 106 families composed of 328 persons were displaced, he said.*
