SSS orders 6 employers in Bacolod to pay P5.1M

The Social Security System (SSS) Bacolod Branch served show cause orders to five out of six employers on Monday, March 27, for failure to remit SSS contributions of their employees.

The delinquencies of the six businesses total P5,127,807.85 affecting some 204 employees.

The SSS officials enforcing the RACE (Run After Contribution Evaders) were only able to serve five notices because one establishment was closed.

Lawyer Maria Conchita Antipatia of the SSS Legal Department said the employers who fail to comply by April 11 will face criminal cases for violation of the Republic Act No. 11199, otherwise known as Social Security Act of 2018, which carries the penalty of imprisonment for six years and one day to 12 years.

But that is a last resort as employers are given the opportunity to settle their accounts, she said.

SSS Vice President for Visayas West 1 Division, Dr. Lilani Benedian, said employers can avail of the SSS Contribution Penalty Condonation and Delinquency Management and Restructuring Program.

The SSS will assist them in restructuring their delinquencies so they can pay at affordable rates on installment, she said.

She stressed that the SSS is serious in its mandate to give employees social protection.*
