The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod commended a Bacolodnon who rescued his co-worker from near death at the risk of his own life at a rubber factory in Busan, South Korea.
The SP approved two resolutions filed by councilors Renecito Novero and Lady Gles Pallen on Wednesday, Nov. 15, commending Monico Lopez Caranay, 50, of Puentevella Subdivision, Taculing, for his selfless rescue, and exemplary courage and heroism in saving the life of his Korean co-worker.
Novero, in his resolution, said that Caranay’s heroic deed of putting the welfare of others before self is an outstanding act worthy of emulation among the Overseas Filipino Workers in the world.
The Korean, who was working on the same shift with Caranay, lost his footing and accidentally fell into the big mouth of a rubber shredding machine, Novero said.
Caranay seeing the sure death situation from afar immediately activated an emergency switch near his station and ran to pull out his co-worker Jaebin Cho out at the risk of the being sucked in himself and crushed, Novero said.
Cho issued a notarized personal certificate thanking Caranay for giving all his strength to pull him out and called the Bacolod OFW “the hero of my life”, Novero added.
The Philippine Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, also presented Caranay with a Certificate of Appreciation for “his exemplary courage, composure and response that saved his Korean co-worker”.
Pallen, in her resolution, said “Caranay’s heroic action warrants praise, recognition, and commendation for demonstrating strong dedication and commitment in helping fellowmen and in contributing to the betterment of the country”.*
