
The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution Wednesday, April 28, endorsing the use of a portion of Bacolod City’s property in Purok Neptune, Barangay Singgcang-Airport, as a residential area for recent fire victims who had been residing in the area for years.
The SP expressed its unanimous support to the commitment of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran of providing residential areas to the residents of a portion of Purok Neptune in accordance with terms and conditions permissible under the law and affordable under the housing program of the city, Councilor Renecito Novero said.
The resolution authored by Novero, chairman of the SP Committee on Urban Poor Housing and Resettlement, also supports the plan of constructing a connecting road from Purok Neptune towards the Gaisanao City Grand Mall.
A fire on Monday destroyed 55 houses in Purok Neptune and left 65 families homeless, Barangay Captain Rosinie Distrito said.
Novero, in his resolution, said Leonardia and Familiaran visited the fire victims at the JR Torres Elementary School gym on Tuesday, April 27.
The area the fire victims have been occupying for years in Purok Neptune is owned by the City of Bacolod that purchased the property from the Arnaldo family sometime ago, Novero said.
Leonardia and Familiaran, during their visit to the fire victims, expressed their desire to allocate a portion of the property for the homes of the families who have been occupying the area for years with a plan of constructing a connecting road towards the Gaisano City Grand Mall, Novero said.
The commitment of Leonardia and Familiaran will expedite the realization of the yearning of these residents as expressed in previous meetings held between them and his committee, Novero said.*
