The caterer alleged to have served spoiled food during the State of the City Address of Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez apologized to those who were affected by the incident and asked the public for their understanding.
In a public statement issued Wednesday, July 13, Big Belly Food to Go owner and chef Darwin Castaneda said that they apologize to those who were affected by the incident as it was never intended and assured it will never happen again.
Earlier reports said that on July 5, some attendees of the SOCA complained about the alleged spoiled food served by the caterer.
Members of the media had also complained of stomachaches and diarrhea after the event, it added.
Castaneda thanked Benitez for his understanding of the plight of the small businesses, adding that the mayor has handled the issue fairly.
In the statement, Castaneda also said that they never wanted to put in jeopardy their business and will prioritize improvements of their services.
“For more than half a decade in the food business, we too wish to continue and make a legacy,” it said, adding “Rest assured that since the start of the business we always consider the best and safest preparation.”
The Bacolod City Government is now in the process of delisting the caterer from the list of its accredited food suppliers.*
