Silliman University (SU) in Dumaguete City  has been declared safe and its campus lockdown lifted following a thorough security assessment conducted by university security forces and local law enforcement.

The official clearance came after a bomb scare Monday prompted a campus evacuation and  a swift, coordinated response from the Philippine National Police and various emergency units.

The SU administration , in a statement posted on its Facebook page, praised the campus community for their awareness, cooperation, and patience while authorities meticulously swept and secured the university premises.

The university thanked a wide network of responding agencies that assisted throughout the incident, including the Philippine National Police Cybercrime Unit, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group, and the Dumaguete City Police Station.

Assistance was also provided by the Philippine Coast Guard, the Dumaguete City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the university’s own Campus Security and Safety Office.

Their combined efforts ensured a comprehensive check of the grounds before the all-clear was officially given, the starement said.

Despite the lifting of the lockdown, the university is maintaining its shift to remote operations for Tuesday.

Classes at all levels are being conducted online Tuesday.

Meanwhile, all university employees have transitioned to a work-from-home arrangement and are expected to remain on standby to perform their duties and respond promptly to work-related concerns as needed.

While the immediate lockdown has ended, enhanced security measures will remain in effect across the campus.

Strict gate inspection protocols will continue, and Campus Security and Safety personnel will maintain heightened monitoring and thorough inspections of the university premises.

University officials have reminded everyone to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended items to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing that the safety, security, and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors remain the institution’s highest priority.*
