San Juan City Mayor Francis Javier Zamora signed sisterhood agreements between his city and the province of Negros Occidental — including its 31 towns and cities and Bacolod City — at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod on Thursday, March 12.
“This partnership creates an avenue for our local governments to work together in areas such as governance, economic development, tourism promotion, cultural exchange, and people-to-people engagement,” Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said.
He thanked the San Juan City government, led by Zamora, for the gesture of friendship and cooperation.
“Your openness to building partnerships beyond your city is a testament to the important role local governments play in strengthening national development,” Lacson said.
Zamora, who also serves as the national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), said that they sign sisterhood agreements because they want to learn from the best practices of other local government units.
He also said that an area at the Greenhills Shopping Center will be designated where products from Negros Occidental and its towns and cities can be sold and promoted.
Lacson confirmed that Negros Occidental will accept the offer for the province to display its Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) products in San Juan.
The Negros Occidental MSME products at the Technology and Livelihood Development Center (TLDC) immediately came to mind, Lacson said.
Zamora added that he was also in Negros Occidental for the LCP National Executive Board meeting and the Visayas cluster consultation to determine the specific needs of the area to be relayed to the national government.*
