Sagay snorkeling guides get help

The Sagay City snorkeling guides received assistance from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) -Cadiz on Wednesday, September 8.

The CENRO through its Sagay Marine Reserve (SMR) under its Conservation and Development Section spearheaded the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) and turn-over ceremony for its Development of Biodiversity-Friendly Enterprise (BDFE) in protected areas under the National Integrated Protected System (NIPAS) at Balay, Kauswagan, Sagay City.

Mayor Alfredo Marañon III and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Edgardo Rostata led the MOA signing and turnover of the equipment to BuhayDagat Snorkeling Guides of Sagay Association, a CENRO press release said.

They received 30 sets of life vests, 30 sets of full foot fins, and 30 sets of masks and snorkels as support to their biodiversity-friendly enterprise as snorkel guides and offering various packages to enhance visitor’s appreciation of the marine ecosystem while affording them the opportunity to gain income, it said.

It was during the two-day Planning Workshop for Molocaboc Integrated Development in February of this year when the Buhay Dagat Snorkeling Guides was recognized as the new beneficiary for 2021.

The SMR staff conducted the inventory of the existing small and medium enterprise, and rapid assessment which served as the premise to determine the relevance, applicability and acceptability of the livelihood for the success of BDEF project.

The BuhayDagat Snorkeling Guides of Sagay Association got an assessment score of 98.5 percent

The BuhayDagay Snorkeling Guides of Sagay Association has 20 members.*
