The Sagay City government, through its breeding centers, was recognized by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and the Provincial Veterinary Office as a Sustainable Livestock Champion during their 2026 Recognition of Partners and Stakeholders at Negrense Residences in Bacolod City on Tuesday, April 14.

The award highlights the collective efforts of the Sagay City LGU Breeding Centers, including the dairy, beef cattle, piggery, poultry, and sheep and goat farms, in improving livestock production and supporting local farmers, a press release from Sagay City said.

City Veterinarian Dr. Modesto Cañonero III expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing the achievement to the dedication of personnel and the continued support of local leaders.

“This recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of our team in strengthening livestock programs and helping our farmers. We remain focused on building a more sustainable and progressive agricultural sector in Sagay,” he said.

Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” Cueva also commended the City Veterinary Office and all stakeholders for the achievement, as it affirms the city’s efforts in supporting farmers and strengthening livestock programs are making a real impact.

“We will continue to invest in sustainable agriculture to ensure food security and better opportunities for our communities,” the mayor said.

Cañonero also acknowledged the support of Cueva, Rep. Alredo Marañon III (Neg. Occ., 2nd District), Sagay Vice Mayor Narciso “Narwin” Javelosa Jr., and the Sangguniang Panlungsod in advancing agricultural initiatives.*
