‘Sa Pwesto ni Pistong’ Bacolod film fest winner

A film about a barber living in the ‘80s won the best picture award at the 1st Bacolod Film Festival awards night at SM City Bacolod on Sunday, Sept. 15.

“Sa Pwesto ni Pistong”, a film directed by Vincent Joseph Entuna, a film graduate from the University of the Philippines-Dilliman, bested nine other short films in the competition during 4-day film festival.

Entuna was also awarded as best director and for best screenplay.

The film is about a humble barber who navigates a tumultuous era while serving a diverse array of customers, including a prominent haciendero and an idealistic nephew.

Meanwhile, “Laragway sa Karon” directed by Nina Aira Villanueva and Pau Ortaliz Santos won the audience choice award, best actor award for Dante Macam, and best editing for Xavier Nojas and Fahleen Fang.

“Aninaw” directed by Charlene Maed Tupas also received a jury prize for acting ensemble for actors Milton Dionzon, Reynaldo Dante Amaguin, and Louis Dormido, and best cinematography for Rosco Cofreros.

“Chicken Inasal (Those Little Things)” by Poli Gonzales and Massah Gonzales-Gamboa, also won best sound for Rolf Baynosa, best production design for Kathryn Tecson-Baynosa, and best visual effects for Poli Gonzales,

Rene Hinojales of “Puli Na, Diche Lesly” won as best supporting actor while the best musical score was given to Khyle Zedrick Anasta for “A Flower A Day”, and best make-up for Alvin Diaz for the film “Glub” directed by Reginald Amador Zack Verzosa.

During the festival, five moviegoers won iPhone 15s and three won P100,000 each.

This year’s panel of jurors were Film Development Council of the Philippines Chairperson Jose Javier Reyes, Singaporean film critic and film festival organizer Philip Cheah, Lawyer and Producer Joji Alonso, Bacoleño Director Lawrence Fajardo, and screenwriter Wanggo Gallaga.*
