Bacolod City and 24 other local government units in Negros Occidental have cancelled classes on Monday, Sept. 16, because of expected heavy rains.

There will continue to be heavy to intense rain over Negros Occidental on Monday and Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Sunday.

The low pressure area outside the Philippine area of responsibility has intensified into a tropical depression, Pagasa said in its 11 p.m. bulletin on Sunday.

The Tropical Depression is forecast to enter the PAR around Tuesday evening and may exit the country Wednesday morning.

The Tropical Depression is forecast to intensify into a Tropical Storm by tomorrow afternoon or evening. The possibility of further intensification is not ruled out, considering that the weather disturbance is still over the Pacific Ocean, Pagasa said.

Current track scenario shows that the Tropical Depression will not directly affect any part of the country throughout the forecast period, it added.
