A retired teacher died in a fire that destroyed her 2-storey house in Purok 4, Brgy. Aguisan, Himamaylan City, on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Amelia Gicana, 84, was not able to get out of her burning house, a Himamaylan City Fire Station report said.
FO2 Ronel Ivan Labansauan, Chief Arson Investigator, said that they received a fire call at about 11:21 p.m. and the fire was declared out at about 11:58 p.m. Sunday.
The victim was in her room when the fire broke out.
She called for help but her family said that they tried but failed to rescue her because the fire had already engulfed the house, the investigator added.
The destruction was placed at about P720,000, while recovered evidence was brought to the BFP laboratory to determine the cause of the fire, he said.*
