Youth dev’t code pushed

Youth leaders from various sectors in Negros Occidental convened to push for the Negrosanon Youth Development Code to enhance development programs for the youth at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City, on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The youth leaders launched the Negrosanon Youth Agenda which was developed after a series of consultations to tackle pressing issues of the youth, the Negrosanon Young Leaders Initiative (NYLI) Center for Democracy and Participation said Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The agenda includes their call to push for the Negrosanon Youth Development Code which is now being reviewed by the members of the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

“We will lobby for this agenda with the belief that those vying for positions in LGUs must address the concerns of young people,” John Rey Reyes, NYLI- CDP program manager, said.

The agenda outlines key priorities, including passing a 1 percent Youth Development Fund, amplifying youth representation, advancing climate action, addressing educational crises, and improving access to mental health services.

The agenda also highlighted the importance of the local government to collaborate with youth sectors such as IPs, out-of-school youth, PWDs, farmers, fisherfolk, children in conflict with the law, and the LGBTQIA+ community.*
