The purok president whom firefighters rescued from his burning house in Purok Kingfisher, Barangay 16, died at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City on Sunday morning.

Purok Kingfisher president Alejandro Tiad, 49, succumbed to severe burns from the fire that hit   18 houses at Purok Kingfisher on August 1, Barangay 16 Captain Jason Ligaya confirmed.

Tiad was already out of his house but  he returned to  check if one of his children  was left behind and to retrieve something,  Supt. Jenny Mae Masip, Bacolod Fire Marshal, said on  Thursday,

Firefighters heard his shouts for help and found him lying on the floor of his burning house with burns all over his body and having difficulty breathing, Masip said.

Ligaya said Tiad was also a tricycle driver and worked hard to send his five children to school.

He may have gone back to the house retrieve the money he had saved for the schooling of his children, Ligaya said.

The barangay captain said when he visited Tiad at the hospital he asked for help for his children so they could continue to go to school.

Ligaya said he is hoping some people are touched and will help Tiad’s children continue their studies as their barangay has limited funds.

The Barangay 16 Council, staff and residents are deeply saddened by the death of Tiad, Ligaya said in a   Facebook post.

“Alejandro was a cherished member of our community, and his absence will be profoundly felt. We mourn the loss of his presence and the countless contributions he made to our neighborhood,” Ligaya said.

“May the memories of Alejandro’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit continue to inspire us all”, he added.

The Brgy 16 Sangguniang Kabataan, in a Facebook post, said Tiad “touched the lives of many with his dedication and kindness. His commitment to his Purok has left a lasting impact that will be remembered by all”.

“In this time of grief, we would like to come together as a community to support his family. Any assistance, whether it be in the form of financial help, meals, or other support, would be greatly appreciated to help them through this challenging period,” the SK post said.*
