Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo won a second gold at the Paris Olympics on Sunday night (PH time), August 4.

Yulo clinched his second Olympic gold medal in the men’s artistic gymnastics vault finals.

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said Yulo’s winning in the Paris Olympics has “made us proud and inspired the whole nation with his remarkable achievement”.

“Not just one, but two golds…what an outstanding achievement,” Benitez said.

“It feels good to be a Filipino”, the mayor said.

Yulo’s wins meant the playing of the Philippines national anthem for two consecutive days at the Bercy Arena in Paris.

Yulo also won a gold medal in the floor exercise finals in men’s artistic gymnastics at the Paris Olympics on Saturday.

Yulo’s two golds bring to three the number of gold wins for the Philippines in its 100-year participation in the Olympics.

Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz delivered the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Filipino boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas are already assured of bronze medals at the Paris Olympics.*
