The iconic facade of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol is set to shine brighter under a new partnership between the Provincial Government and Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power).
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Negros Power, represented its President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Z. Castro, to light up the Capitol’s historical architecture while also launching joint tree and mangrove planting initiatives.
The signing ceremony took place this afternoon at the Negros Power Main Office in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City.
The primary focus of the agreement is an illumination project designed to enhance the Capitol’s visibility and showcase its distinct architectural features while carefully preserving the integrity of the historic structure, a report from the provincial government said..
Under the MOA, Negros Power will supply, install, and conduct initial testing of the lighting fixtures for designated portions of the building, subject to provincial approval. To safeguard the heritage site, no drilling, chipping, or other invasive work will be permitted on the Capitol Building, and fixtures placed on the columns and main entrance will remain non-permanently attached.
Negros Power will also shoulder all costs associated with the supply, installation, and initial implementation while closely coordinating with provincial offices to ensure safety and security throughout the process.
The partnership also extends into environmental sustainability through Adopt-a-Site conservation programs. Negros Power will collaborate with the province on tree planting activities in Don Salvador Benedicto and mangrove planting efforts in Bago City.
These green initiatives aim to support the Provincial Government’s ongoing environmental and reforestation campaigns by restoring forested areas, safeguarding coastal ecosystems, and fostering community involvement in sustainable environmental practices.
The ceremonial signing was witnessed by key representatives from both the provincial government and the electric utility, including Negros Occidental Provincial Administrator Rayfrando P. Diaz II, Negros Power Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Engr. Joe-Mel Zaporteza, and Assistant Vice President for Customer Care and Marketing Ma. Cecilia Pe.*
