Province readying aid for hog raisers

Financial subsidies for hog raisers affected by pig deaths caused by African Swine Fever and cholera are now being readied by the Negros Occidental provincial government.

Provincial Veterinarian Placeda Lemana said on Friday, November 3, that the provincial government will be giving P2,000 per family affected by pig mortalities in Negros Occidental.

“We have already given a list of beneficiaries to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and they are now processing the documents,” she said.

Lemana said with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections over, they hope they can distribute the assistance once the hog raisers complete their requirements.

She also reported that the last disease-related pig mortality recorded in Negros Occidental was in September while pre-sentineling and disinfection is being conducted in the areas where there had been high hog mortality.

The PVO is continuously monitoring those areas and is conducting daily disinfection with the help of local para-veterinarians and technicians in every local government unit, Lemana said.

Pork supply in the province continues to be stable, she said, adding that last month the province have shipped out 2,000 pig heads to neighboring islands.*
