PRC aids Kabankalan evacuees

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) provided assistance to 233 residents belonging to 62 families who evacuated following an encounter between Philippine Army soldiers and New People’s Army rebels at Sitio Dangalon, Barangay Hilamonan in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, on May 11.

The evacuees at the Hilamonan Covered Court returned to their homes on Sunday, May 14, the PRC said on Tuesday, May 16.

The PRC immediately mobilized 143 Red Cross Volunteers and Red Cross Youth members to provide essential support to the affected families.

The volunteers provided child-friendly space activities, promoted hygiene practices, and raised awareness about dengue prevention, a press release from PRC said Tuesday, May 16.

PRC also deployed an ambulance team to ensure that medical assistance was readily available.

PRC Chairman Richard Gordon said “during times of crisis, the Philippine Red Cross stands firm in its commitment to serve and support those affected “.

Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, PRC secretary general, said PRC is dedicated to providing immediate assistance and relief to the affected families.*
