Utility watch group Power Watch Negros believes that the joint venture agreement of Central Negros Cooperative and Negros Electric Power Corporation will restore the distribution utility to a condition of successful operation and solvency.
Power Watch Secretary-General Wennie Sancho said in a press statement Tuesday, May 28, that the proposed rehabilitation of the CENECO infrastructure will not be limited to the repair and replacement of its aging equipment.
“Power Watch Negros expects that a CENECO to NEPC transformation will be nothing short of being revolutionary, as we foresee that it would involve the major redesign of this distribution utility,” he said.
The transition would also be an opportunity to take a critical look at the existing policies and standards of CENECO to ensure it is conducive to the new working environment, the statement said.
“We are perceiving positive changes in the rehabilitation of CENECO spearheaded by NEPC, which are encouraging us to go on and push ahead, in spite of the difficulties that usually accompany major transformation efforts”, Sancho said.*
