Police arrest 3 in Cadiz for illegal butane refilling

Three men were arrested in a police operation against illegal petroleum refilling in Brgy. Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The police identified the suspects as alias “Jonnie,” 21, alias “Jay,” 20, and alias “Mark,” 19. All are laborers and residents of Cadiz City.

The Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office conducted the joint operation with the Cadiz police and caught the suspects in the act of selling and refilling butane canisters without permits.

Confiscated from them were four butane canisters, a weighing scale, improvised refilling equipment with three burners, two 50-kg LPG tanks, 121 filled canisters, 22 empty canisters, a motorcycle with sidecar, and P100 in marked money.

Police estimated the total value of the seized items at P20,000.

The suspects are now in the custody of Cadiz police and face charges for violating Republic Act 11592, or the LPG Industry Regulation Act.*
