PNP: Army soldier shot in San Carlos, 2 suspects nabbed with P1M in drugs

Two suspects who shot an Army soldier were arrested by pursuing policemen and more than P1 million in drugs, firearms and a grenade were seized from them in Sitio Takas, Brgy. Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, on Monday, Feb. 17, the police reported.

Shot was Sgt. Alfort Servidad Tito, 40, of Brgy. Bato, Sagay City, Negros Occidental. Tito is a member of the 79th Infantry Battalion.

1st Lt. Dan Carlo Somoza, 79th IB spokesman, said the incident was not job related.

The victim was traveling towards San Carlos City on his motorcycle when he was shot at by the suspects. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the San Carlos City Hospital for treatment, and later transferred to a Bacolod hospital, the police report said.

San Carlos Police Station cops conducted a hot pursuit operation, which led to the arrest of the suspects who are currently detained.

Arrested were Jobert Gimarangan Salazar, alias “Jojo”, 31, of Barangay San Benito, Calatrava, and Alfie Sayo Raganas alias “Dondon”, 42. Barangay Suba, Calatrava, the San Carlos police reported.

Recovered from them were a .45 caliber pistol, KG 9mm pistol, ammunition, a grenade and 162.67 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1,106,156.00 and 2.47 grams of suspected marijuana worth P370.50, the report added.

The motive for the shooting is a possible personal grudge, the report said.*
