DUMAGUETE CITY – The Perpetual Help Community Cooperative (PHCCI) has donated a traffic light system to the local government of Sibulan, Negros Oriental, to help ease congestion along the town’s main thoroughfare.

Sibulan Mayor Jose Pepe Abiera and PHCCI Chief Executive Officer Cliffordson Lariosa led the signing of the deed of donation at the town hall on Wednesday.

Lariosa said this was the first time PHCCI had donated a traffic light system to a local government unit in Negros Oriental or in any of its service areas outside the province.

“This is part of the cooperative’s efforts to help in the development and growth of a community,” he said.

He added that the traffic light system is expected to help improve traffic flow along the national highway, a major route connecting Sibulan to Dumaguete City, the provincial capital.

Lariosa noted that Sibulan is among the areas with the largest PHCCI membership.

Leovigildo Elmaco, chairman of the PHCCI Board, said the cooperative approved the project because it supports its vision of improving people’s lives and contributing to community development.

Abiera welcomed the donation and assured PHCCI that the municipal government would properly maintain the equipment to ensure its long-term use.

The mayor said traffic volume in the municipality continues to increase, particularly every 13th of the month, when devotees visit St. Anthony of Padua Church for their regular religious observance, which includes prayers, candle lighting, and Mass.

The traffic light system is expected to become operational next month or before the end of the year.

The project is being implemented in partnership with SBK Construction. (JFP)
