Panay-Guimaras bridge operational in 2028: DPWH

The Panay-Guimaras Bridge will be completed and operational sometime in June 2028 before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. steps down, Western Visayas Public Works and Highways regional director Sanny Boy Oropel said Monday, January 29.

The detailed engineering design (DED) of the Panay Guimaras Negros bridges is being funded with a $45.9 million foreign loan, Oropel told DIGICAST NEGROS.

The notice to proceed with the DED has already been issued Yooshin Engineering Corporation that entered into a joint venture with Kyong-Ho Engineering and Architects Co. Ltd., Dohwa Engineering Co. Ltd., Soosung Engineering Co. Ltd., and Dasan Consultants Co. Ltd, he said.

“The PGN detailed engineering design is expected to start very, very soon, maybe next month, to be fully completed in 2025 or in two years,” Oropel said.

The Panay-Guimaras study will be completed in December of 2024 and civil works is targeted to start in the second quarter of 2025, he said.

The Guimaras-Negros Bridge DED will be completed in December 2025, Oropel said, but he could not give a specific time for the start of its civil works

The Panay-Guimaras bridge spans 13 kilometers, while the Guimaras-Negros stretch covers 19.47 kilometers.*
