Farming will be allowed in the 4 kilometer permanent danger zone of Kanlaon Volcano, Raul Fernandez, Office of Civil Defense 6 regional director, said Thursday, Oct. 31.
The Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) had already passed a resolution declaring the 4 kilometer permanent danger zone of the volcano as a strict protection zone but an amendment was made, he said.
Fernandez said farming will be allowed in the strict protection zone but living or building structures in the area will be prohibited.
In a meeting of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council in La Castellana town Wednesday, assistance to those who will be relocated was also discussed, he said.
Fernandez said the La Castellana town government can provide three hectares in Brgy Manghanoy to be used as the relocation site for the affected residents.
The declaration of a strict protection zone was necessary so that there is a legal basis for providing assistance to those affected, he said.
The PAMB and LGU are still reconciling the data on the number of families to be removed from the 4 km permanent danger zone.
