Around P8.9 million worth of confiscated smuggled cigarettes were destroyed at the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City, on Wednesday, May 7.

The disposal activity was led by the Negros Occidental Maritime Police Station headed by P Maj. Karl Bonilla, together with personnel from the Talisay City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Talisay City Mayor Rowena Lizares joined the activity and expressed support for the continuing crackdown against smuggling and illegal tobacco trade in Negros Occidental.

Authorities said 11,450 reams of illegal cigarettes confiscated during an operation in Brgy. Tiling, Cauayan town on May 19, 2025 were destroyed.

Among the seized products were 4,300 reams of Dunston cigarettes, 800 reams of Fort cigarettes, 2,350 reams of Casa Blanca cigarettes, and 4,000 reams of Champion cigarettes.

To prevent the products from being recovered or resold, the cigarettes underwent shredding, soaking, and burial in compliance with sanitary landfill regulations.

The activity came after authorities also discovered an alleged fake cigarette factory in Brgy. Calumangan, Bago City on April 24.*
